A local look at how blood donation actually works across Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Derabassi and Kharar — and where a platform like Lifia fits into that picture.

Needing blood, or wanting to donate it, usually isn't a national question — it's a local one. Which hospital, which blood bank, who's nearby, and how fast word actually travels all matter more than any general statistic.

This guide gives an honest overview of the local blood donation landscape across the Tricity region, and explains where Lifia fits — and where it doesn't.

Important: Lifia is a technology platform that helps people discover and connect with potential blood donors nearby. It is not a blood bank, not a hospital, and not an emergency medical service, and it does not guarantee blood availability or response time. For a medical emergency, contact your hospital, a blood bank, or emergency services directly.

The Region Lifia Serves

Lifia currently operates across five connected areas often referred to together as the Tricity region and its surrounding towns:

Chandigarh
Mohali
Panchkula
Derabassi
Kharar

These areas share overlapping hospital networks and daily commuting patterns, which is exactly why blood needs and donor availability don't stay neatly confined to city boundaries — someone in Kharar may be the closest available match for a request in Chandigarh, and vice versa.

How Blood Donation Typically Works Locally

Blood donation in the region generally happens through a few parallel channels:

Hospital and institutional blood banks — major hospitals across the region, including large public institutions like PGIMER in Chandigarh, operate their own blood banks as part of standard hospital infrastructure.
Voluntary donation camps — periodically organized by hospitals, colleges, NGOs, and community organizations.
Informal networks — friends, family, colleagues, and community WhatsApp or social media groups, where requests are shared and forwarded person to person.

Each of these plays a real role. Hospital blood banks and camps remain the backbone of the actual blood supply — Lifia doesn't replace them or store blood itself. What Lifia focuses on is the informal layer: helping the right people find out about a specific, verified request more efficiently than an open forward chain.

Where Informal Networks Struggle

WhatsApp groups and social media posts genuinely do connect people — but they come with real, well-known friction:

A personal phone number gets shared publicly and keeps circulating long after a request has already been fulfilled.
There's no way to confirm a request is genuine or still active.
The same request often gets posted in dozens of groups at once, and the person who needs blood ends up fielding a flood of calls instead of a few relevant ones.
Donors have no structured way to see which requests near them actually match their blood group.

See How Lifia Is Making Blood Connections More Private in Tricity for a closer look at this specific problem and how Lifia's review-based approach addresses it.

Where Lifia Fits

Lifia is built specifically to organize that informal layer — matching nearby registered donors to reviewed, verified blood requests within the Tricity region, without exposing anyone's contact details until both sides of a match have been individually reviewed.

It doesn't replace hospital blood banks, donation camps, or emergency protocols — it's meant to sit alongside them as one additional, more organized way for local people to find and help each other.

If You Need Blood

Start with your treating hospital's own blood bank and any organized donation drives you're aware of — these remain the primary, fastest institutional channels. Alongside that, you can post a request on Lifia so nearby registered donors with a matching blood group can discover it once it's reviewed. See Need Blood in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula? Here's How Lifia Works for the full walkthrough.

If You Want to Donate

Registering as a donor on Lifia takes a few minutes — you'll provide your blood group and general location, and you'll be able to see nearby requests that match. You don't need to know your blood group in advance; see Who Can Donate Blood? for the general eligibility overview before you register.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Lifia provide or store blood?

No. Lifia is a connection platform, not a blood bank. Blood collection, testing, and storage remain entirely the responsibility of licensed blood banks and hospitals.

Which areas does Lifia currently serve?

Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Derabassi, and Kharar.

Is Lifia an emergency service?

No. For a medical emergency, contact your hospital, a blood bank, or emergency services directly — don't rely on any single platform, including Lifia, as your emergency plan.

Can donors in one Tricity area help requests in another?

Yes — the areas Lifia serves have overlapping hospital networks, so a donor in Kharar, for example, may be a practical match for a request in Chandigarh.

Does Lifia replace hospital blood banks or donation camps?

No. Lifia is meant to work alongside existing blood banks and camps, not replace them.

Service Scope Disclaimer

Lifia is a technology platform that facilitates connections between people who need blood and nearby registered donors. It is not a blood bank, hospital, or emergency medical service, and it does not guarantee that blood will be available, that a donor will respond, or how quickly a connection will happen. Always contact your hospital or a licensed blood bank directly for urgent or emergency blood needs.
