Why open WhatsApp forwards and public phone numbers are a real problem for both donors and seekers — and the specific design choices Lifia makes instead.

If you've ever seen a blood request circulating on WhatsApp, you've probably also seen the same request still being forwarded weeks after it was resolved, with a personal phone number still attached to it. That's not a one-off glitch — it's how open, unstructured sharing tends to work.

The Problem With Open Sharing

Posting a blood request in public groups or social media is fast and well-intentioned, but it comes with real, recurring downsides:

Phone numbers stay exposed indefinitely. Once a number is shared in a group, there's no way to take it back — and forwarded messages often keep circulating long after the need is met.
There's no verification. Anyone can post anything, with no way for a stranger to know if a request is genuine, current, or a duplicate of one they already saw.
The same request gets fragmented across dozens of groups, and the person who needs blood often ends up fielding a flood of calls and messages instead of a few relevant ones.
Donors have no structured way to know which nearby requests actually match their blood group, so they either get bombarded with irrelevant asks or miss relevant ones entirely.

None of this is anyone's fault — it's simply what happens when a genuinely good instinct (help spread the word) meets a completely unstructured channel.

How Lifia Is Built Differently

Lifia's core design choice is straightforward: no contact information is ever shared automatically. Instead, sharing happens only after a two-sided review:

A blood request is reviewed before it's shown to any donor.
A donor's interest in that specific request is reviewed before any contact details are exchanged.

Only after both steps are approved do the seeker and the matched donor receive each other's contact details — and only each other's, not a public broadcast to everyone who happened to see the request. What This Means If You're Seeking Blood

Your phone number isn't posted publicly or forwarded indefinitely. It's shared only with the specific donor whose match with your request was reviewed and approved — not with everyone who ever saw your request.

What This Means If You're a Donor

You won't get random, unsolicited calls tied to your number circulating in group chats you're not even part of. You choose which specific nearby requests to respond to, and your contact details are only shared once a match involving you specifically has been approved.

Requests Have a Real Status, Not Just a Timestamp

Unlike a forwarded message that has no way of signaling "this is already resolved," a Lifia request has an actual status — under review, approved, fulfilled, or cancelled — so donors browsing nearby requests aren't responding to something that's already been taken care of.

An Honest Limitation

Being private and structured doesn't automatically mean being faster. Lifia's review steps exist specifically to keep the process trustworthy, which is a deliberate tradeoff against the instant (but unfiltered) nature of an open group post. Lifia doesn't guarantee a specific response time or that a donor will be available — see Blood Donation in Chandigarh, Mohali & Panchkula: A Local Guide for how Lifia fits alongside — not instead of — hospital blood banks and existing donation networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my phone number ever shown publicly on Lifia?

No. Contact details are only shared between a seeker and a specific matched donor, after that individual match has been reviewed and approved.

Can other donors see my contact details just because I posted a request?

No. Donors can see that your request exists and matches their blood group, but not your contact details, until a specific match is approved.

Does Lifia verify every request?

Every request goes through a review step before it's shown to donors, and every donor match goes through a separate review before contact details are shared.

Why does the review process add delay compared to posting in a WhatsApp group?

Because the review exists specifically to filter out invalid, duplicate, or unclear requests — a deliberate tradeoff for reliability over raw speed.

Does this mean Lifia is faster than social media groups?

Not necessarily. Lifia doesn't guarantee response time — the benefit is a more controlled, private process, not a promise of speed.

Service Scope Disclaimer

Lifia is a technology platform that facilitates connections between people who need blood and nearby registered donors. It is not a blood bank, hospital, or emergency medical service, and it does not guarantee that blood will be available, that a donor will respond, or how quickly a connection will happen. For urgent or emergency blood needs, contact your hospital or a licensed blood bank directly.
